The Silence of the Girls - Book Review

Title: The Silence of the Girls

Author: Pat Barker

Page count: 325

Read dates: 27/07/20-6/08/20

Brief synopsis - A retelling of the Illiad from the point of view of Briseis.

My thoughts - This is a strange one to rate because I enjoyed the first half more than the second half. I love historical fiction, and mythology so the combining of the two, from the point of view of a woman, written by a woman was a very exciting prospect for me.

It's a very sad story of course, and if you strip it down and look past the mythology it is quite powerful. I Have no idea how these women survived!

I felt that the author made Achillies quite easy to sympathize with, which seemed like the wrong choice when you consider what the book is actually about, and I didn't like that aspect.

I also felt that the language used is a bit unrealistic as well like it's a bit too British.

All in all, I was a bit disappointed come the end.

My rating - 2/5
